Social Action
These two sentences are associated with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s 5K Race for the Cure. I have been running in this 5K in Virginia Beach (and now in Washington, DC) for several years now, and these race days have hosted some of my favorite memories. Being a part of a team really is inspiring, and to run in this race with other women who are dedicated to this cause always makes me want to do more. Because of this, I decided to initiate a fundraiser this year to help a team of (broke) college students raise enough money to run. I created a design for a breast cancer awareness bracelet made out of Swarovski crystal pearls and rose-colored crystals, and a pink ribbon charm to symbolize the cause.
In my mind awareness is just as important as trying to find a cure. Teaming up to run this race is a great way to get the word out and to educate people on the issue. I donate all of the proceeds earned on this line of bracelets to teams of women who wish to run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
